Something Old to Something New
So recently I have been itching to get creative and do another home DIY project. So of coarse my first stop was Merchant Square which is the local antique super store in Chandler, Az. Typically when I go to this store it takes me hours to rummage through all the cool vintage things, I love day dreaming about the stories behind each thing. However with this trip I instantly gravitated to an awesome old suitcase. It called my name and with a slamming price tag of only $19, how could I possibly resist the deal (I am a sucker for a deal...but that's a whole different post, lol).
As I stood there staring at the suitcase I thought to myself what the heck am I going to do with this. Then it hit me we could use a super cool, unique yet functional side table for our living room... which I am currently giving a facelift too! I love eclectic conversation pieces, so this was perfect plus I figured it would be awesome for additional toy storage. After I purchased it I was so excited I rushed over to Home Depot and bought table legs, then rushed home to tell Brent I had yet another "hunny do" project. Needless to say he was not surprised that I found something at the antique store, as I rarely come home empty handed. He also had his doubts that it would look good, but to his dismay he loved it and it fit in perfectly with our homes decor. Oh, and little Miss Harper also loved it and helping her dad create her cool new toy box, as she calls it.
This project literally took him 15 minutes to screw the legs onto the bottom of the suitcase and BAM, a totally rad side table... and did i mention it cost us under $40! Hopefully this off the wall idea gets you excited to go out and creat your own one of a kind piece of furniture or should I say art!
Ciao for now!

I'm back!!!!
Well after what seems like an eternity, I am entering back into the blogging world. I have been absent from my blog for over a year which is way too long...and i must say i have missed sharing all the cool and exciting things we have been up to! Life got very busy once I found out I was having baby number two and unfortunately my blog took a back seat to a much more important priority, planning for Hawk Patrick who arrived on October 8, 2012. Hawk is now a happy and very busy 10 month old baby boy. Once he started walking at the very young age of 9 months old things got even more hectic in our already busy household. My days are consumed with chasing my two crazy munchkins around, play dates and running household errands.
My goal is to keep the post coming more regularly as things are about to get even busier in the Emmerton household. Now that Harper is the big 3, our little social butterfly is getting involed in lots of fun things this fall. She will be starting a part time preschool 2 days a week this September as well as soccer and ice skating lessons! We are getting very excited to see our "big girl" experience all that life has to offer. In addition to all of Harper's new adventures we will be traveling to Canada for a week, I will be planning Hawk's 1st birthday party, standing up as a bridesmaid in my brothers November wedding and hosting a large family Christmas. Yup, when I said busy I meant it...goodtimes to come!
With al of that being said, I am ready to jump back into the blogging world with guns blazing...so stay tuned folks!

"Emmerton Party of 4"
We are pleased to announce to all of our family and friends that we will be welcoming a new addition to the family in early October! I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with our second bundle of joy, whom is making me sicker then a dog. I have been battling "morning sickness" or let me rephrase that to "all day sickness" since I was 6 weeks along. This is all new territory for me since I had a VERY easy pregnancy with Harper, no morning sickness, no gas and no heartburn...all of which I have with this baby! But, with all the horrible symptoms comes great excitement and joy! We can not wait until October to meet our little boy or girl...

"Sin City or Windy City"
Between our busy work schedules, family functions and just the everyday crazy chaos of life, Brent and I realized we had not had a night away from our beautiful little monkey for over a year. It was time for a date night, and not just any old dinner date would do. We needed to have some fun, a whole night to ourselves...and with Brent's parents in town from Canada to babysit, we decided to go big and fly out to Vegas for a night! We went all out and even book a great room at the Bellagio!
As the day approached we were getting so excited, and a little sad to leave our baby even if it was only for one night. I know I am pathetic, but hey I have only left her once when she was 3 months old! I had the whole trip planned in my head...drink and layout by the pool all day and then an awesome night that involved a rock'n dinner, gambling and just having a blast! This was going to be a weekend to remember.
As our trip got under way all those fabulous plans went right out the window as soon as our plane departed, and the captain announced the Las Vegas weather...50 degrees with 35 to 40 mile-an-hour winds! As we arrived at our beautiful hotel the wind got stronger which made the temp colder, we quickly realized there was no pool in our near future! Instead we hit up the buffet, went to the sports book for some bets, and even walked around to do some shopping for jackets! It was definitely not on Brent's agenda, but I must say for a guy that hates to shop he was a great sport! The weather was so bad you could not go outside and the Las Vegas Strip was a ghost town. We decided to brave the wind a sit by the pool anyway, but instead of bathing suits it was hoodies and blankets! Needless to say we were the only dumb asses at the pool, and our time there was short lived! By this time we decided to go to dinner at Rao's which is an Italian restaurant in Caesar's...by the way the food is the bomb diggity, check it out if you get a chance! The rest of the night consisted of the usual walking around different casino's and gambling, nothing to exciting!
Although I felt like we were on vacation in Chi Town and not in Sin City we still made the best of the crappy weather! All in all the trip was still very relaxing and a blast because I got to spend some much needed alone time with my love.
Note to self: NEVER go to Vegas in February again, apparently it's there windy season!

"Toys, toys and more toys"
Have you ever felt like toys are taking over your home? Well, that's what happened to me...an overwhelming abundance of toys all over the living room. It seemed like every night after Harper went to bed my husband Brent and I spent a good 20 minutes trying to organize her toys. Our problem is the fact that we do not have a separate playroom where we can just shut the door and hide the mess, our living room is her play area and at the end of the day no matter how hard we tried to organize, it still looked like a huge messy pile!
Finally, after all the holiday decor was put away we decided that we were going to create Harper a small play area in our living room where we originally had a breakfast nook table. As I started researching different types of children's shelving units, I began to realize I was not going to find what I was looking for without breaking the budget. I was looking for something that was dark wood, sturdy, and had both a bookshelf and cubby pockets. Everything I found on the web was either way to expensive or just tacky looking! So, I decided we were just going to have to make one ourselves, and when I say "ourselves" I mean my wonderful-handy husband Brent. As usual he was up for the challenge of another one of my many DIY projects!
We went to Home Depot and bought some durable wood and stain, and off he went building my vision! It took him one full day to complete the project and for around $100 we now have a great piece of furniture. I helped complete the project by purchasing some organizing bins at Target for the cubby portion of the shelves. Harper now has an area of her own where she can read her books, it is like her very own minnie living room. Brent and I have our adult space back, and we are now able to relax after she goes to bed without having to stare at the clutter.
